Bio -

Reggie McCafferty is an artist-photographer based in New York whose practice transposes the American landscape with localized narratives and multi-faceted cultural shifts. More than technique, McCafferty’s work alludes more to the experience of being in an environment and observing the world than the mechanizing of the camera itself. The photographic action becomes a diaristic entry about the transience and impermanence of all moments, in spite of the medium. Place and temporality relinquish their preeminence for a more universal understanding of nostalgia. For McCafferty, composition becomes a vehicle for the creation of strange, often humorous, narratives informed by the collective nostalgia from a cross-generational family history in rural New York. Interested in the tension between poetic fragmentation and visual realism, McCafferty conflates the photographic medium with his parallel practice as a writer, often exploring subjects marked by a temperamental and imperfect authenticity, approximating a fiction of the landscapes presented.
